Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of striker Luis Solignac pending the receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 24-year-old forward arrives to Major League Soccer from Nueva Chicago of the Argentine First Division where he has scored two goals in 10 appearances this season. Solignac becomes the third Argentine player signed by the club for the 2015 regular season, joining Lucas Pittinari and Juan Ramírez at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
“He is a true No 9, a target forward,” said Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni. “He has very good movement with the ability to bring others into play but he is a good finisher too. So he adds to the offense we already have and he wants to challenge himself in MLS. We believe that he has the right type of mentality for our group.”
Solignac made his professional debut for Club Atlético Platense in 2008. A year later, he went abroad and joined Sporting Braga of the Portuguese first division. Solignac has also played in Sweden and Finland during a globe-trotting career.
During his time with IFK Mariehamn in Finland, Solignac amassed 23 goals in 47 matches. The team also lost in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League against Inter Baku of Azerbaijan.
“Luis is a player we have been tracking for quite some time and his acquisition is another example of the successful scouting network we have established," added VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director, Paul Bravo. “He is an ideal age to be coming to MLS and we feel sure he’ll be able to provide an important option for us in attack.”
