Colorado Rapids announced today that midfielder Marlon Hairston has been loaned to Charlotte Independence of the United Soccer League (USL). The agreement covers the duration of the MLS and USL seasons but the Rapids have the option to recall Hairston from their USL affiliate club at any time.
“We feel this is a good time for Marlon to get meaningful minutes in what will be a very important time for Charlotte as they make their final push to the Playoffs,” said Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director. “It will also be a great opportunity to get game sharpness which will put Marlon in a great position should the staff call on him down the stretch here in our remaining MLS matches.”.
During his first stint with the Independence, Hairston made six appearances (four starts), registering one goal, two assists and logging 424 minutes. His goal came in the 3-0 home win over Richmond Kickers on May 8. He also enjoyed an assist, as a result of which he was named USL Player of the Week.
Next up for Charlotte Independence is a trip to Wilmington, North Carolina to take on the Hammerheads on Thursday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m. MT. With five games remaining, Charlotte is fighting for a playoff berth in their inaugural season in USL. The team is currently sitting in eighth place with a record of 8-6-9 (33 points).
