COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, October 18, 2012) – Colorado Rapids midfielder Brian Mullan underwent successful surgery on his left knee on Thursday, and the Aurora native will miss the team’s final two matches of the season. The procedure, a scope of Mullan’s left knee, will cause the midfielder to be out approximately 4-6 weeks while recovering.
The surgery was performed on Thursday by Rapids Team Doctor Wayne Gersoff MD at Advanced Orthopedics in Denver. Mullan, who had played through injuries throughout the season, appeared in 28 regular season matches for the Rapids in 2012 (25 starts), scoring two goals and adding seven assists, good for second on the team behind Martín Rivero. The Regis Jesuit graduate’s 307 regular season MLS appearances is third among active players (excluding goalkeepers), trailing only teammates Tyrone Marshall (337) and Pablo Mastroeni (318), and he has made at least 22 appearances in 11 straight seasons.
The Rapids visit Chivas USA this Saturday in California before returning to Commerce City for the final match of the 2012 season on Saturday, October 27 against the Houston Dynamo. The game takes place on Fan Appreciation Night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with giveaways, prizes and discounts throughout the event.
