Colorado Rapids sign forward Giles Barnes from Club León

Colorado Rapids Soccer Club announced today the acquisition of forward Giles Barnes from Liga MX side Club León on a six-month deal with a club option for 2019 pending receipt of his ITC.

“Giles is an experienced and creative forward who will provide depth for us at the striker position,” said Rapids Executive Vice President and General Manager Padraig Smith. “We look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the burgundy and blue.”

Barnes, 29, has featured for MLS sides Houston Dynamo, Vancouver Whitecaps and Orlando City, amassing 36 goals and 17 assists in 157 games. Born in England, but of Jamaican descent, Barnes has 19 international appearances for the Jamaican National Team, scoring three goals, including the game-winning strike against the United States in the semi-final of the 2015 Gold Cup. He arrives in Colorado after spending one season in Liga MX with Club León.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity being given to me by the Rapids front office and technical staff,” said Barnes. “There’s a lot of quality on this roster and hopefully I can come in and contribute immediately as we kick-off the second half of the season.”
