Matchday Welcome: Rapids host Chivas USA

Rapids Fans:

Who would have thought that we would be talking this much about winter weather in our fifth home game of the year, in mid-May? Well, it is certainly unexpected, but I want to thank all of you for making it out to the stadium in another #RapidsWeather situation here at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Our fans have always shown their dedication regardless of the conditions, and we love being able to play in the snow, just like all Coloradans!

It has been an exciting week for the team, and busy as well, starting with last Saturday night’s win over the LA Galaxy here, and then a draw at the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday. A result against Chivas USA today would give us seven points from three difficult games, and we’re excited at that prospect. We’re also welcoming a new member of the squad, in Gale Agbossoumonde, who arrived in Denver yesterday after a three-team trade on Thursday. He’s an exciting prospect, an imposing central defender who fits in with our talented, young group. We look forward to seeing him on the field soon.

Today is also special as we welcome so many moms to the stadium on Mother’s Day. We hope many of you have taken advantage of the promotion that allows moms to get in free today, and maybe you’re getting treated to the game by your family! Also, thanks to our new jersey sponsor, Ciao Telecom, you have a chance to win a suite for your mom and 15 friends for the game on June 1 against the Houston Dynamo – just visit www.ciaotelecom.com/mom for more details and a chance to win. That contest closes tonight at midnight, so be sure to get your entry in soon.

Speaking of Ciao, we want to thank all our fans for their support and encouragement following last week’s announcement, and for being so excited for this major step for the club. In fact, if you’ve already purchased a burgundy or blue jersey and want the logo to be pressed on it, Ciao has volunteered to do this for free, and our team store is open today to do that. Visit here for more information, and be sure to check out the latest edition of our “Brandy!” video series with our Equipment Manager, Brandy Lay, with a funny take on all the work he’s been putting in lately.

Again, thanks for coming out to today’s match. It’s nice to see our former assistant coaches Wilmer Cabrera and Paul Caffrey now leading Chivas, as well as midfielder Martín Rivero, but we hope that they don’t get a result today! As always, if there is anything we can do to help improve your experience here at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, please speak with our Customer Service staff, or get in touch with me directly on Twitter, @tkhinchey3.

Enjoy the game, and come on you Rapids!
