PACHUCA Mexico (Feb. 27 2007) - Rapids weekly team notes for the week of February 26 2007 straight from the Rapids Media Relations Department:
Rapids Record Two More Victories in Mexic Prior to yesterday's Rapids 2-2 draw with Cruz Azul on Thursday February 22 the Colorado Rapids defeated Cuautitlan Tuzos 3-1 in a preseason exhibition. Herculez Gomez scored two goals and Stephen Keel scored the third. Gomez’s strikes came in the 1st minute and in the 21st minute with Clint Mathis providing the assist on the second. Tuzos scored on a long kick in the 13th minute. Two minutes from full time Keel headed in a Nico Colaluca corner kick. The game was played with two 40 minute halves.

The Rapids also defeated the Universidad Panamericana 1-0 in a game played at the Pachuca training facility on Saturday February 24. The lone goal for the Rapids was netted in the dying moments of the second half by draftee John DiRaimondo. The two 30-minute halves game featured numerous opportunities for the Rapids who came close to scoring on more than four occasions. Saves by the Mexican goalkeeper on Roberto Brown in the 15th minute and on Nico Colaluca in the 24th provided the highlights of the first half.

Pablo Set to Return: Pablo Mastroeni who did not travel to Mexico with the team will rejoin the club in Colorado on March 5th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The U.S. National Team midfielder underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on February 16 in Los Angeles. He is expected to be out 2-3 weeks before returning to action. The injury was sustained during the last US National Team camp prior to the game against Mexico.

Roster Compliance Date: The Colorado Rapids will be releasing players from training camp by this Wednesday February 28 when the team returns to Denver. The Rapids will have to comply with Major League Soccer’s roster compliance deadline and have 18 senior roster players and 10 developmental players by this Thursday March 1.

Rapids Announce Schedule Change: The Rapids have had their April 28 game at Real Salt Lake moved to April 30 at 7:00 p.m. MT. The game is the first Rocky Mountain Cup game of the year. The Rapids will host Real Salt Lake on May 10 and Oct. 20 as they try to win the Cup for the third straight year.
