Golf Classic raises over $25K for charity

Commerce City, Colo. (August 2, 2011) - The Colorado Rapids held its second annual Charity Classic golf tournament on Monday, bringing players, coaches and staff out to the links to play with community leaders, sponsors, and fans. The event, held at The Club at Pradera in Parker, was a resounding success, raising more than $25,000 for Kroenke Sports Charities.

A total of 30 foursomes hit the course on Monday afternoon, playing a scramble-style tournament for prizes donated by local businesses. The Coca-Cola team won the day, followed by Rapids #2 (Jeff Larentowicz, Mike Holody, Steven Emory, and KSE community ambassador Mark Randall) and CFM Company took third place. Perhaps the biggest prize of the day – a free, one-year lease on a Porsche – went unclaimed, as nobody managed to sink their tee shot for the Porsche Hole-in-One. Other honors went out to the players, including prizes for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive, and one (un)lucky team was recognized for having the worst score of the day.

While the players competed and had fun on a beautiful day in Parker, the event was all about charity, and a total of more than $25,000 was raised for Kroenke Sports Charities.  KSC supports underserved children and families in Colorado through educational and recreational programs, as well as appearances and sports clinics by players and coaches, donations of autographed merchandise and tickets, and the gift of services by Kroenke Sports and Entertainment employees.

The success of the event came down to the generous support and donations from sponsors, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Westerra Credit Union, HealthOne, Heineken USA, Coors Light, Porsche, Coca-Cola, All Copy, Maximized Living, Credit Union of Colorado, American Family Insurance, CFM Company, Beecher Carlson, Denver Marriott City Center, and Renaissance Denver Hotel. Additional food and drinks at the event were provided by Famous Dave’s, KIND Bar, Powerade, Muscle Milk and Vitamin Water. Ear2Ear Photo Booth was also on hand for participants.

The tournament, in just its second year, will continue to grow next year and beyond. For more information on Colorado Rapids charity events, programs, and appearances, please visit www.ColoradoRapids.com/community.
