Rapids go pink for "Soccer Kicks Cancer" match on Saturday

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Tuesday, October 2, 2012) – In this Saturday’s match, the Colorado Rapids will participate in Soccer Kicks Cancer, an initiative focused on raising awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment, and providing strength and hope in the fight against cancer affecting men, women and children. The Rapids will incorporate the color pink as part of the breast cancer awareness campaign spearheaded by MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative.
Collaborating with MLS partners adidas and Gatorade, Saturday’s match between the Rapids and the San Jose Earthquakes at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be played with a commemorative pink adidas PRIME match ball and players will use pink sideline towels provided by Gatorade. Players and referees will wear a special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on their jerseys, pink adidas sweat bands, pink shoelaces, and other pink items.

The Rapids will auction items at the Community Relations table at the top of Section 129 during the game, with fans being able to bid on a limited number of Soccer Kicks Cancer t-shirts, game balls, and jerseys with proceeds benefitting Kroenke Sports Charities. Additional game-worn autographed jerseys and the special-edition pink match balls will be available for auction at beginning October 15 as part of the League’s effort to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.
Limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness adidas products including scarves, sweat bands, hats, t-shirts and replica balls will be available for purchase at select retailers throughout North America, including MLS stadium shops and A portion of the proceeds from fundraising efforts will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
