Colorado Rapids announced today that the club has acquired attacker Conor Doyle from D.C. United in exchange for a third-round pick at the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
“We believe Conor is an excellent addition to our roster,” said Paul Bravo, Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations. “Although he is still young, he already has wide experience in MLS and Europe. His ability to cover a number of offensive positions gives us strength in depth as we approach the new campaign.”
Doyle has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons with D.C. United, making 56 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. The 24-year-old was used in a number of roles in midfield or the forward line and was frequently an 'impact player' off the bench. However in 2015 he started 10 games, scoring two goals. In 2013 he grabbed two goals in eight starts.
Doyle was born and raised in Texas. He was enrolled in Creighton University but, before making an official appearance, was signed by English side Derby County on August 6, 2010. He spent three seasons with ‘The Rams’ featuring in 22 Championship games in addition to appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup.
During that period, Doyle also represented the USMNT at the U20 and U23 level, as well as the Irish national team at U21 level.
He joined D.C. United on loan in the summer of 2013 and helped the club lift the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup later that season. The move was made permanent ahead of the following season.
