Within hours of being sent on loan to USL neighbors Colorado Springs Switchbacks, rookie striker Niki Jackson was taking to the field in a contest with Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Weidner Field.
Jackson, who scored the opening goal of the 2018 season for the Rapids in a 2-1 loss at New England, came off the bench for the final 35 minutes of a chippy 0-0 draw, in which both sides had a man sent off.
The Switchbacks move to 3-3-1 overall, and lie seventh in the Western Conference. Next up is a testing trip on Saturday to Orange County SC, who have won four in a row without conceding a goal.
Mike da Fonte was involved a dramatic encounter for Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, as they managed a last minute goal to tie Swope Park Rangers 2-2 at home. Sporting Kansas City’s USL affiliate were on the verge of victory, having netted in the 88th minute, only for Rising FC to respond.
Phoenix play the second of three successive home games this Saturday, when Fresno FC are the visitors.
The Rapids’ USL affiliate, Charlotte Independence, were not in action last weekend. They tackle Indy Eleven at home this coming weekend, seeking to snap a three game winless streak.
