Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (10/30/07) - The Colorado Rapids started the first of the team's off-season training sessions yesterday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Even though the 2007 season is over for the Rapids the team is committed to improving for next year. On Monday the push toward those improvements began as the Rapids practiced hard for nearly two hours with this year's untimely finish to the season fresh in their minds.

The Rapids had been given last week off from training and starting this week the team will resume their daily training sessions which will continue every day throughout the coming weeks. All post-season training sessions will be closed to the public.

Today's quote comes from Rapids Assistant Coach John Murphy on what the club is focusing on as the Rapids' off-season training regimen kicks off:
"Right now we are focusing on different things for different players. One of the things we don’t want to do is overwork players who are coming off of injuries or who have just played a very long season.
"I think there are some younger players that we can spike the amount of work that they are doing. It is slightly different for everybody. We are going to have specific training for specific individual players and for groups of players – defenders midfielders and strikers – and we will just try to tighten up some things.
"We are going to use this time in a positive way rather than just keeping everyone back and going through the motions. There is going to be more specific training to address strengths and weaknesses as individuals groups and as a team."
