Academy Update: U-18/19s and U-16/17s prepare for the 2017 Winter Showcase

Two teams from the Colorado Rapids Development Academy will play a total of six games over five days later this week, at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

In all, 76 DA clubs will take part, playing 228 games, in front of U.S. Soccer technical advisers, scouts, youth national team staff, and a whole host of college recruiters.

More than 400 college scouts will be in attendance, from all NCAA divisions, as well as those from overseas, keen on monitoring the region’s top talent.

For their part, the U-18/19s will begin on Thursday with a game against Crossfire Premier. This match will start at 12:00 PM and will be streamed live.

They then face Crew SC Academy at 11:00 PM on Friday, before tackling Toronto FC Academy on Sunday, with a 9:15 AM start.

The U-16/17s start and finish a day later. Erik Bushey’s boys open against Concorde Fire on Friday (9:00 AM), before meeting D.C. United on Saturday (12:00 PM), and then Portland Timbers on Monday (7:00 AM).

This is the 11th year of the Winter Showcase, with member clubs facing unfamiliar foe. All games are against teams from outside of the Rapids’ conference, but will count toward the overall regular season standings.
